An organisation’s stakeholders can influence whether it survives or thrives. Gain skills in identifying and assessing important stakeholders to build creative and productive relationships that meet organisational goals.

About this course

In this course, you will learn why and how to engage, involve and consult your organisation’s stakeholders. You will explore the concepts of stakeholders and engagement through research and contemporary case studies and create stakeholder maps that identify and prioritise stakeholders to inform engagement plans. In addition, you will develop a stakeholder engagement plan and apply your acquired knowledge of tools and tactics to your own workplace.

Course structure

The course comprises three modules and is delivered over four weeks, part-facilitated and part self-paced:

Module 1 - Stakeholders

  • Who or what is a stakeholder?
  • Creating stakeholder maps.

Module 2 - Engagement

  • What is authentic engagement?
  • Building relationships by engaging with stakeholders.

Module 3 - Stakeholder engagement plan

  • Practical tools and tips for engaging with stakeholders
  • Creating a stakeholder engagement plan.

Over the course, you will be immersed in UTS’s innovative learning experience, with:

  • A live, online 1.5-hour orientation session to get to know your facilitator, your peers and the course
  • Live, online interactive workshops (1-hour and 1.5-hours) throughout the course to discuss learnings from the modules
  • Ongoing, expert academic support with collaborative online activities
  • A live, online 3-hour session at the end of the course to review your stakeholder engagement plan.

Learning outcomes

At the successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Identify and categorise stakeholders to develop a stakeholder map
  • Advise organisations on how best to engage with stakeholders through a stakeholder engagement plan
  • Apply a number of stakeholder engagement tactics to your own work context.

Mandatory

  • To complete this online course you will need a personal computer with adequate internet access, web conferencing capability and an operating system with a web browser compatible with Canvas and Zoom.
