- Key court judgment: planning principles
- Facilitation skills for the DA Planner.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Articulate the legal frameworks in which planning decisions are made and their impacts, history of strategic planning, development and subdivision law in NSW as well as national and international law
- Analyse planning instruments such as development control policies, LEP’s and DCP’s, merits based
- Prescriptive codes and assessment and the outcomes delivered
- Apply the application and approvals process from pre-lodgement to post approval stage
- Evaluate merit assessment, heads of consideration, determining key issues and impacts, stakeholder views, weighting key issues, public domain works, applying conditions of consent utilising key examples and worked case studies, considering conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Analyse sources of conflict, approaches for dispute resolution, the role of the Land and Environment Court including procedures, planning principles and case law.

Delivery style
This short course will be delivered as an interactive workshop consisting of an instructor-led lecture, group and individual activities. This approach allows participants to work through concepts introduced by the trainer in an application-focused teaching environment. Participants will challenge their understanding of the concepts and consider their application once back in their individual workplace.
On day 4, participants will be accompanied by our presenter(s) on a site visit, with location details to be provided in the lead up to the course commencement.
