Have a question?

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an intelligent, 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. Learn how to create, navigate and manage a range of BIM processes during this course.

About this course

Are you working in the construction industry with limited BIM experience? If so, this short course is for you. This course will solidify your experience in building information modelling technology and BIM process that give architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals the insight to more efficiently design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. You will be introduced you to BIM fundamentals and receive hands-on experience with leading BIM software.

Course structure

During this course you will learn basic BIM concepts (including 3D BIM -parametric object-based modelling) and will create, navigate and manage a range of BIM processes. Moreover, you will learn how to engage effectively with other stakeholders to deliver basic BIM projects and will explore the different dimensions of the BIM process.

You will also develop fundamental skills using Revit and Navisworks, which are the two, industry-standard BIM software packages. By gaining hands-on experience with these programs, you will build a holistic understanding of BIM as a key tool that is shaping your industry.

This course runs over two days in UTS’s revitalised 5D, BIM Lab. As well as gaining extensive hands-on experience, you will be given supplementary reading material to provide context for your learning.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will understand:

  • Fundamental BIM technology
  • How to use 3D and 4D enabled models for clash detection, quantity and material take-off schedules, timelines and other applications
  • How to utilise Revit and Navisworks software as tools for 3D and 4D BIM.
